If you haven’t come across Too Hot to Be Cool before, a quick introduction. It’s a Tokyo-based volunteer-run charity rock event series running since April 2024. Across eight editions, Too Hot to Be Cool has raised nearly ¥1.5M for youth-led environmental NPOs in Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia, by booking great local bands and donating every yen of ticket sales to climate organizations.
This August’s edition is the 9th, and the first one outdoors. The setup is an umi no ie (summer beach house) with six bars and restaurants, a stage facing the ocean, and tables for the whole afternoon. Eight live acts spanning garage, surf, punk, funk rock, pop rock and more. Catch a band, swim, get a drink, come back for the next set. 100% of ticket proceeds go to Mangrove Matters PH, a youth-led Philippine NPO restoring mangrove ecosystems and supporting the coastal communities that depend on them.
